  1. I just posted my hypothesis of Astragalus causing lower back muscle pain on May 6th on this blog, and already today on May 30th I got a view from someone else in the United States who experienced the same thing: the searcher typed in "lower back started hurting after astragalus" and thereby found my blogpost. I'm the only one on the internet and as far as I know anywhere else who has published such information. I was certain that I'm correct and this view from someone else supports my hypothesis.

  2. I'm posting my description/hypothesis (which I published on May 6th, 2013) again for a time-stamp: Quick Fact 3: at least some Astragalus supplements (I took Vitality Works Astragalus 500 mg per capsule supplements as directed on the bottle, the only ingredients being two: certified organic astragalus root and modified vegetable cellulose) can cause back pain, especially lower back muscle pain. Little known fact/side effect. If you are taking Astragalus supplements and feel strange sensations in/along your back or are experiencing back pain, stop using the supplements for a good while. From my experience, the strange sensations in parts of my back that I felt after taking astragalus supplements (which I took to boost my immune system during the cold/flu season) were a precursor to the lower back muscle pain (which started soon after I began taking the supplements), and those sensations could be a sign that you are likely to develop back pain from the astragalus supplements. Celery seeds on the other hand help to relieve back pain (a bonus fact). I almost never have back pain, but I had lower back muscle pain a few months ago that began after I began taking the astragalus supplements, although the astragalus supplements were not the only culprit and contributing factor: the lower back muscle pain was also partly caused by excessive coughing from a cold and partly due to a few other factors. However I analyzed all the factors carefully, and I'm 98% sure the astragalus supplements greatly added and maybe even primarily caused the lower back muscle pain, which is what I'm arguing here. I note that I noticed strange sensations (but not pain) in/along parts of my back from the first time I took those astragalus supplements, and the lower back muscle pain began after I began the supplement regimen, and throughout I had the feeling that the astragalus exacerbated the back pain. I also had the feeling that the astragalus did boost my immune system (which by the way is just fine and above average), but the side effect wasn't worth it.
