Dec 28th

Updated version on top, earlier version below (changes were made to make the body proportions of both figures anatomically accurate instead of more stylized as in the earlier version). Original pose/scene, no references used. Click on the label {Spider-Man art} found below this post (in the web version, not mobile) to see all the Spider-Man drawings on this site. In early 2022, I will ink and color this drawing.

Spider-Man drawing

AmazingSpider-Man2014SDCC
This is a new Spider-Man drawing of mine which I finished today in Los Angeles and began in mid August 1998 at the 1998 San Diego Comic-Con in a hotel room in San Diego. That was my first time at the Comic Con, it was pretty fun. Original pose, no reference used.

I haven't gone to the Comic Con again since '98 (I had mostly stopped collecting new comic books in 1997, don't know if I bought any new comics in 1998), but in recent years I've been wanting to go again. There's also a smaller but much closer comic con in Anaheim, just southeast of L.A. I haven't been there yet.

A new Spider-Man drawing

This is a new Spider-Man drawing of mine, pencil on illustration board 15" x 20". This will be a big drawing when I'm finished. Then it will be inked and colored with watercolors or gouache, not colored pencils. The earlier version in the previous post shows a more old school Spider-Man, but he looked a little too calm, so I changed him up and I decided to make him look like a 1990s Spider-Man instead of an early/mid 1980s John Romita Jr. version seen in the previous post.

August 2014, Spider-Man drawing

A new Spider-Man drawing by me which is a very close rendition of a Spider-Man drawing by John Romita Jr.: but I didn't trace nor use a projector: I just looked at the original J.R. Jr. panel and I drew what I saw about as best as I could, but I drew it much larger than the small panel that I was looking at.

Spider-Man Dec 21st

Alright yeah, finished inking and finished coloring this scene. I'm leaving the floor around the Lizard white and the background buildings bluish. Original scene, I used just a loose reference for Spider-Man from a panel where he was leaping away from John Jameson (J.J.J.'s son) in the late 1960s Amazing Spider-Man, there was no background in that panel and Spidey was drawn differently, I also changed the position of his left arm.

Original position, no reference used. Drawn in October 2013, finished December 8th.

Spider-Man Nov 21st

I finished this drawing in October and November 2013, inked and colored. The 1996 drawing was based on a Todd McFarlane pose which I changed to a different pose (his right arm pose, the arm that is not holding the webline, that pose wasn't in the 1996 version) and different style.

Spider-Man Nov 20th

Back in 1997, not sure which month, I drew this drawing. I did some light touch ups in 2013, plus inking and coloring. Original pose, no reference. Buildings will be finished soon and colored as well. Click on the {Spider-Man art} label at the bottom of this post (found in web version, not mobile) to find all my Spider-Man art on this blog.

Spider-Man drawings

AmazingSpider-Man2013

Spider-Man2013

AmazingSpider-Man2013

Amazing Spider-Man 2013 1997

4 Spider-Man drawings of mine. From the top:

1) This one is from 1997 or 1998; colored and inked in 2013; and the poses are original.
2) The next one is from 1997; colored in 2013; and the pose is original. I'm placing the inked version after the pencil version, the buildings have yet be finished. The pencil version looks great as well, as is usually the case.
3) The next one is from 1997 redrawn in 2013, original pose.
4) This one is from 1997 or 1998, inked and colored in 2013.

I've posted a number of Spider-Man drawings and I'd like to make it clear that the Spider-Man I'm drawing is 50% the original Spider-Man from the 20th century Marvel Comics and some 21st Century Marvel Comics, and 50% the Spider-Man of a more realistic continuity, more realistic than the continuities currently found in Marvel Comics (to my knowledge). I've read a lot of Marvel Comics and I know how the Marvel Universe stretches believeability/credulity, that's why my Spider-Man is often the Spider-Man of a more realistic continuity, something which Marvel hasn't done yet (or if they have, I haven't seen it).

I'm going to finish, ink and color all the drawings in this post soon. Click on the {Spider-Man art} label at the bottom of this post to see all my Spider-Man art on this blog. The label is visible in the web version of this page, not the mobile.

Two 1990s Spider-Man drawings

Spider-Man201420131995

Two Spider-Man drawings of mine from the 1990s. First, a Spider-Man drawing I drew in 1996, not based on another artist's Spider-Man, inked and colored this year. Back then I drew superheroes on lined paper sometimes (these days I no longer use lined paper for superhero artwork). Next, another Spider-Man drawing of mine from 1995/1996 on lined paper which I touched-up slightly and inked and colored this year, an original pose again.

August, Spider-Man drawings

Spider-Mandrawingaugust

And now while it's still August, I'm back to posting more artwork of mine. The top Spider-Man drawing in this post I drew quicker (see the pencil version below) than any of my other Spider-Man drawings posted on my blog before and again with no reference. For many years I was out of practice from Spider-Man drawing, but not anymore. The colored pencils that I'm using don't have all the shades of blue or red that I need for Spider-Man, but I can usually make them work, plus I've been buying new color shades.

Spider-Man drawing June 24th

I finished drawing the background and coloring this Spider-Man drawing of mine that I posted in April without the background and without color. I want to finish and color as many as I can.

Spider-Man drawings June 21st

AmazingSpider-Man2

This pencil drawing is the initial version of the colored Spider-Man drawing that I posted above. In this earlier version I hadn't finished drawing the front of the train and I had drawn Spider-Man's head too small , though I like the look of Spider-Man's face in this drawing as well.

Spider-Man drawings June 14th

AmazingSpiderMan2014

Two versions of a partly inked drawing showing Spider-Man in his black costume. The Spider-Man part of the drawing goes back to 1996 or 1997, at which time it was finished in pencil, then in 2014 I drew more of the background and began inking and finished inking the Spider-Man part of the drawing on June 14th. The version showing the new background with super-Ninjas will be finished soon (update 2021 Dec: I will post the finished work here in early 2022). This is an original pose, not adapted from someone else's.

Update, Dec 2021: I've added the label {Spider-Man art} to this post, so if you want to click on that label (you will find the label below this post, you have to go to web version to see the label, not mobile version) you will be able to quickly get to my other blog posts featuring my Spider-Man artwork. And I will have new Spider-Man works added in 2022.
