some Neighborhood residents

These are 4 drawings all in a certain style and theme, each one depicting a person you might encounter in my neighborhood, East Hollywood and Wilshire Center. Actual streets in Wilshire Center were used for backgrounds. From the top, a bottle collector, next an arsonist (the smoke in the background comes from a fire he just set), an elderly man getting hit by a rock while coming from the grocery store, a Mexican/Central American man getting dangerous with a knife (the arsonist and bottle collector may also be Mexican/Central American). These drawings are all from a sketchbook I had, a page for each, and date back to 2011 or 2010, some maybe 2009.

I plan on coloring them soon enough.

GPKs, check out some finished and colored drawings

Here are 5 Garbage Pail Kids that I came up with, drew, colored and named. From the top: 1) Snot-Rocket Sal/Launched Luigi. 2) Sloppy Joe/Lunch Matt/Meaty Petey. 3) Betty Blooper/Detached Didi/Detached Debbie. 4) Jelly Donna/Jelly Jonah/Glazed Glenn (possible name). 5) Pull-Up-A Cher/Hannah Seat (possible name).

In Sloppy Joe the coloring is not finished, I have to finish the milk carton.

These are colored drawings, not paintings.

August, Spider-Man drawings

Spider-Mandrawingaugust

And now while it's still August, I'm back to posting more artwork of mine. The top Spider-Man drawing in this post I drew quicker (see the pencil version below) than any of my other Spider-Man drawings posted on my blog before and again with no reference. For many years I was out of practice from Spider-Man drawing, but not anymore. The colored pencils that I'm using don't have all the shades of blue or red that I need for Spider-Man, but I can usually make them work, plus I've been buying new color shades.

One Year Anniversary

For the one year anniversary of my blog, Alex G. In Los Angeles, I'm posting this artwork of mine from 2012 which visitors of my blog will know. Yes friends, one year ago I posted my first post titled Greetings . Since then within that year, I posted over 82 posts (82 are still here, several were taken out). A blog is a great way to share your art.

Doug Food

Another Garbage Pail Kid concept of mine. The names I have for him are Doug Food, Purina Pete, Doug Chow, Chucky Chow. I like this guy! I can see him coming out of a 1980s Garbage Pail Kids wax pack as a finished painting. He's based on a GPK sketch from a sketchbook of mine which I'll post here as well.
This is the sketchbook drawing from 2011 that I based Doug Food/Purina Pete on.

Assorted GPK drawings

These are some assorted Garbage Pail Kid drawings of mine, all drawn before I drew most of the GPK concepts that I sent to Topps beginning in mid or late March 2012. A lot of these are from 2011, all except the Conte chalk drawing (with Sepia brown chalk) are from a sketchbook that I was using back then. For many of these (including the chalk drawing which I drew in a few minutes) I used no reference, while for some I used some reference, but all poses and faces are original.

The drawing from a sketchbook showing a GPK whose vomit has brought the dog some treats will be turned into a full GPK concept of mine and I'll post that most likely in June, maybe even today if I have it finished. In the concept drawing the GPK will be vomiting into a dog food bowl, bones coming out etc. with the little dogs ready to munch. I have a lot more various assorted GPK drawings which I'll post soon.

I finished drawing the background and coloring this Spider-Man drawing of mine that I posted in April without the background and without color. I want to finish and color as many as I can.

Spider-Man drawings June 21st

AmazingSpider-Man2

This pencil drawing is the initial version of the colored Spider-Man drawing that I posted above. In this earlier version I hadn't finished drawing the front of the train and I had drawn Spider-Man's head too small , though I like the look of Spider-Man's face in this drawing as well.

Spider-Man drawings June 14th

AmazingSpiderMan2014

Two versions of a partly inked drawing showing Spider-Man in his black costume. The Spider-Man part of the drawing goes back to 1996 or 1997, at which time it was finished in pencil, then in 2014 I drew more of the background and began inking and finished inking the Spider-Man part of the drawing on June 14th. The version showing the new background with super-Ninjas will be finished soon (update 2021 Dec: I will post the finished work here in early 2022). This is an original pose, not adapted from someone else's.

Update, Dec 2021: I've added the label {Spider-Man art} to this post, so if you want to click on that label (you will find the label below this post, you have to go to web version to see the label, not mobile version) you will be able to quickly get to my other blog posts featuring my Spider-Man artwork. And I will have new Spider-Man works added in 2022.
